Our Process

Crafted for the Boat. Built to Last.

Every project at Vintage Marine Graphics begins with understanding the boat and the intent behind the work. Some projects require speed. Others require time and careful development. The process is designed to support both while maintaining one consistent standard of quality.

1. Start With the Boat

The process begins with the vessel itself. Clients are encouraged to share basic details and photos of the boat early on. Hull shape, transom layout, surface areas, and operating environment all influence design decisions. Understanding these details from the start allows for proper scale, placement, and material selection.

This step helps determine whether a project can move quickly or requires a more detailed design phase.

2. Design Direction & Scope

Once the boat is reviewed, design direction and scope are discussed.

For simple needs such as registration numbers or straightforward boat names, designs may move immediately into production. For more involved projects, such as custom artwork, logos, or fabricated elements, concepts are developed and refined before approval.

Designs may begin digitally or by hand, depending on what best serves the project. Digital tools are used to preserve accuracy and consistency, not to replace craftsmanship.

3. Material Selection

Materials are selected based on the environment the boat operates in and the goals of the project. Options may include marine-grade vinyl, printed graphics, teak or wood transom backgrounds, marine-grade 316 stainless steel lettering, illuminated stainless components, domed decals, or specialty materials. Each choice is made with durability, aging, and long-term performance in mind.

Shortcuts are avoided. Proper materials are essential in marine conditions.

4. Production & Fabrication

Once artwork and materials are approved, production begins. Timelines vary depending on complexity. Some projects can be completed the same day. Others require extended timelines for fabrication, specialty materials, or one-of-a-kind artwork.

Throughout production, attention is given to finish quality, accuracy, and consistency. Every piece is produced with the expectation that it will be seen and judged for years.

5. Final Review

Once installed or delivered, the work is reviewed to confirm that it meets the original design intent and quality standards.

The goal is a finished result that feels integrated with the boat, not added to it.

Flexible Timelines,
One Standard

Some projects require immediate turnaround. Others are intentionally paced to allow for proper design, fabrication, and material handling. The process remains flexible, but the standard does not change.

Every project follows the same principles:

  • Designs that fit the vessel
  • Materials proven for marine use
  • Execution without shortcuts
